Foundation Tree Assessment

This new 3 day course for 2027 provides the core knowledge and essential skills to assess individual trees for risk management associated with tree health and structural condition

Price: £595.00 per person including the Lantra Registration fee.

Learners must have a level 2 (or above) arboricultural, forestry or horticultural technical qualification, or relevant certification programme or membership (e.g. ISA Certified Arborist, Alt Tech ArborA), or three years’ relevant experience in tree management and tree assessment (at a basic/BTI level or above).

  • The content of the course builds upon terminology and processes delivered in the Basic Tree Inspection and Survey course and bridge the gap between basic (non-expert) and professional (expert) tree assessment (see Professional Tree Inspection).
  • Upon completion, Learners will gain a deeper understanding of the biological and structural processes of trees, improving their ability to conduct and document formal tree safety assessments when working under the supervision or guidance of a professional tree assessor.
  • Learners will also understand areas of underlying knowledge requiring further development, such as identification and interpretation of fungi, pests, disease and disorders, with sources of information to support further learning.

Most objectives will be assessed at the end of the programme, by written test (short answer) and practical demonstration.

Successful completion of the assessment will result in the award of a certificate of competence
